The Jessup Cup
Jessup
Competition Description
2014 [was] the 55th year of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Jessup is the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from over 550 law schools in more than 80 countries. The Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. One team is allowed to participate from every eligible school. Teams prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case.
Thousands of law students from around the world will work all year long on the season's Jessup Problem, which for 2014 concerns the conflict between maritime development and conservation, criminal jurisdiction and maritime salvage rights. Most students must first compete in qualifying competitions (mostly held in January-March) to earn the right to advance to the White & Case International Rounds held every spring in Washington, D.C.

ILSA Romania Activity regarding JESSUP
Since 2012 ILSA Romania has been organizing the Romanian national rounds of the prestigious public international law moot court competition Philip C. Jessup.
We have been accountable for the well development of the competition at the national level through fairness, logistic, experience and vigilence.
Organizing the rounds implies choosing the three-judge jury for judging the memorials and a different pannel for the oral proceedings. Judges are chosen based on their experience and good standing in the field of international law.
We are proud to have organized in 2013 the national rounds with all foreign experts as judges for both the oral and written rounds.
The solid results gained at the international rounds represents concrete evidence of the dilligent management of the transparent and accurate selection for the advancement of the best team. Precisely, the winning team of the national rounds received the prize for the best foreign speaker, the Alona E. Evans prize for the best memorial at the White&Case International Rounds in 2013.
